Here are some of the most common causes of BusinessVision data file
corruption. Corrupted BusinessVision data files could render your
data inaccessible. There are various techniques to repair them, but
in certain cases they cannot be repaired or recovered. BACKUP your
BusinessVision data frequently, and *IMPORTANT* KEEP the old
backups. You should retain at least one complete backup of your
BusinessVision data per week. See also Factors
that can cause BusinessVision to run slowly. The points
discussed there also apply to helping to prevent data corruption.
As a general statement, it pays to invest in good quality
equipment for your IT infrastructure (server, network, and
desktops). "Cheaping out" on this will eventually come back to bite
you. But there's no need to go overkill either.
- Power fluctuations - UPS's are required on all desktops as well as the server
- Network issues
- IP phones incorrectly configured
- cabling
- faulty hub/switch
- network card issues (hardware & drivers)
- overall slow network
- network too busy (incorrectly installed IP phones is a common cause of this)
- improper DNS or DHCP configuration
- bad device on the network
- Wireless network: do NOT run BusinessVision on a wireless network - it is too slow
- Server too busy or resources low
- Desktop computer:
- too slow or out of resources
- hibernate or sleep modes allowed (turn these off!)
- Hard drive issues
- Anti-virus software
- settings too aggressive
- omit BusinessVision data files from scanning (on both desktop and server)
- Pervasive:
- incorrect configuration - see Pervasive Settings
- corrupt Pervasive installation
- mixed versions of Pervasive on the network
- Insufficient resources on server - HD space, RAM, etc
- Improper shutdown of server
- Backing up or copying BusinessVision data files while in use can actually corrupt the files
- Improper security permissions on the BusinessVision data files
- Overly restrictive network permissions
- Placing BusinessVision data on a NAS (Network Area Storage) device.
BusinessVision data must be located on a Windows computer running
Pervasive.
