BusinessVision, like all software, functions best on a fast
network with modern hardware and operating systems. DO
- Use modern up-to-date brand name business class desktop computers,
with a minimum of 4GB of RAM and a modern CPU. Hard drive space and
speed aren't as critical, as these are almost certainly adequate on any
newer computer.
- Windows 7 is best, or Windows 8 (if you can stand it!).
- Use competent and experienced IT support people to look after your
business computer network.
- Ensure your network runs at 1 gigabit, as opposed to 100mb.
- Use a proper server running Windows Server operating system,
equipped with adequate RAM (8GB is usually adequate), and server class
hard drives (SAS type as opposed to SATA). Mirror the hard drives for
fault tolerance.
- Equip ALL computers and other network equipment with UPS's
(Uninterruptible Power Supplies).
- BACKUP your BusinessVision data regularly!
- ALWAYS do a COMPLETE backup of the BusinessVision data files, NOT an
incremental or differential backup.
- Run antivirus software of some sort, BUT ensure it is properly
configured and does not bog down your computers. It MUST be set to
exclude BusinessVision data files.
DON'T
- DON'T run BusinessVision over a wireless network.
- DON'T turn on the Hibernate or Sleep functions in Windows
- DON'T "cheap out" on your computer equipment - avoid
computers designed for home use.
- DON'T go overkill on your server and network. Get only what you need.
- DON'T run BusinessVision on older computers.
- BusinessVision will not run on Macs. Please use PCs. Yes, in some
instances BusinessVision will run in the Mac's Windows environment
emulator, but in many cases results are not satisfactory. Mac's are for
personal and fun use, graphics, music. PCs are your best choice for
business.
