Updated Apr 18 2023
IMPORTANT Please check your computers prior to
installation of Spire.
There is no leeway on the following:
- Windows 7 and 8 are NOT
supported (requires Windows 8.1 Pro and up; Windows 10 Pro or 11 Pro is
preferred)
- requires Windows Pro edition
(Home edition is not supported and may cause issues, and will not
receive any support from Spire)
- Windows Server 2008 and 2012
are no
longer supported (requires Windows Server 2012 R2 and up)
- requires 64-bit
computers
- requires Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browser on the Server
Please take particular note if you are at the lower
end of the requirements, or only meet the minimum requirements. It is
probable that your hardware and/or Windows version may no longer be
supported in the near future.
Please also see the Spire website for the latest specs:
https://www.spiresystems.com/requirements/
Microsoft's support of Windows Server 2012 R2 support
will end Oct 10, 2023. |
Location of the Spire database: The Spire database MUST be located in
the default location of
C:\ProgramData\Spire\... of the server. Locating it elsewhere can
lead to technical problems, an inability to successfully install Spire
Server, and problems upgrading later (even a minor upgrade). |
Remote Access to Spire
- Accessing Spire via a VPN (or not), or in any way over the
internet is NOT recommended. Internet connections are too
slow and there is a high probability of data loss.
- Spire must be accessed remotely using some sort of remote
access tool, such as RDS/RDP, Teamviewer, LogMeIn, etc.

NOTE re modern CPUs (last update of this notice was
Apr 18 2023) There are reported issues installing and running Spire
Server and Postgres on Windows Server 2019 when the computer is running
an 11th or 12th Generation Intel processor. These issues also apply to Windows 10
and Windows 11, as well as other Windows Server OS's. The main issue
appears to be the 11th/12th Generation Intel processor specifically related to the
actual installation and configuration of Postgres, and possibly
subsequent issues actually running Spire. These issues are
resolved in v3.10 of Spire. |
