Pervasive Settings, v8.7

BusinessVision data files are managed by a companion piece of software called Pervasive. In order for Pervasive to function properly, a few settings need to be made within Pervasive.

This page assumes some familiarity with computers. Normally, Wildwood Canada will do these settings for you (if you are my client!). However, this page is provided for those who wish to do it themselves.

This page is about Pervasive v8.7. For Pervasive v9.6, CLICK HERE.

1. First, make sure you are not in BusinessVision. If you are doing this on the server, make sure NO ONE is in BusinessVision.

Start the Pervasive Control Center.

2. This is what the Pervasive Control Center looks like when you first start it up. Notice the unopened "tree" (as it's called) on the left half of the screen.

3. Expand this "tree" by clicking the plus signs beside the following, in order:

(a) Pervasive.SQL Engines
(b) The next line will be your computer name. In this example it is "BV01".
(c) Configuration
(d) Server
(e) Client

Your screen will then look something like this (with the main difference being the computer name of "BV01").

4. Click on "Communication protocols" in the "Server" section.

5. Double-click "Supported Protocols" on the right half of the screen. The "Supported Protocols" box will appear.

6. The goal here is to leave only "Microsoft TCP/IP" remaining in the right half of the box ("Selected Protocols"), as pictured below. Click on "Microsoft SPXII" and then click the left-pointing single arrow to move it to the left, into the "Available" section. Do the same with "Microsoft NetBIOS".

Click "Ok" when done.

7. Double-click "Enable Auto Reconnect", and the Auto Reconnect box will appear.

8. Change the setting from "Off" to "On". This is an important setting. Having this set to "Off" can actually cause errors in BusinessVision.

Click "Ok" when done.

9. Now do exactly the same as above but in the "Client" section, as pictured below. Do both "Supported Protocols" and "Enable Auto Reconnect" sections, just like in the previous section.

10. When you're done, click the exclamation mark (!) icon in the top row of icons.

11. The following message will appear. Click "Yes".

12. Now you need to stop and then restart the Pervasive Workgroup Engine. The simplest way to do this is to reboot your computer! If you do this, then you are now finished with configuring your Pervasive Workgroup engine.

Alternatively, you can proceed as follows...

Locate the Pervasive icon down beside the clock on your Windows desktop - it's the little computer icon.

Right-click the Pervasive icon and select "Stop Engines and Exit". You may get a warning message. If you are NOT in BusinessVision, then you can ignore it and proceed.

13. Then restart the Pervasive Workgroup Engine from your Windows Start menu, as shown below.

You're done!!
